Homework Task: Week 3

Above: This image shows some of the steps I went through to create the logo

1. Choose Leader, I choose Te Kooti to research and create an award for to comemorate his inspiring actions against the Cruel English leaders.

2. Create Award, After analysing Te Kooti's actions it was clear he was deeply religious, but was equally committed to sharing these peaceful and inspriring views with others.

He has really managed to create a lasting impact, one that is still strong within over 16,000 New Zealanders. For these reasons my award is named the 'Order of Spiritualism and Peace'.

3. The 'Order of Spiritualism and Peace' consists of two parts. Spiritualism meaning Religious or deeply Philosophical and anything associated or meaning the same as those. Peace represents just that, and the winner of this award would need to be known for going about their actions in a peaceful way, not battling for them. Peace would also mean the winner must not have provoked violence because of their actions.

My badge (below) has much spiritual and religious importance shown through the figures and words upon it.

  • The Koru in the foreground of which is made of bone represents in Maori Culture Growth and Harmony, and the Peace side of this award.
  • The cross in the background made of stone represents religion and spiritual belief, and the Spiritualism side of this award.
  • The words situated down the right side aswell as the same to the right of the face of the cross read Peace, Growth, Harmony, three important aspects of this award, and the meaning of the Koru
  • The same is written down the left side and to the left of the face of the cross but this time translated into Maori
  • Peace, Growth, Harmony is also the Motto for this award as it has importance in all aspects of the award, and sums up the intentions of the winner
  • The colours of this award hold no known importance but are original colours of both the figures so I choose to keep them
4. Nomination Summary, As I explained in the second section it was clear why Te Kooti would win this award. His determination to educate himself in the ways of the bible lead him to share this knowledge and morals with other Maori people, all while stuck in a prison. But it was when he escaped that prison that the impacts began to hit home. He not only gave many people a peaceful and just religion to follow and guide them through the tough times, but also provided inspriration for all Maori if they chose to follow him or not.

We can see his significant impacts on the community in many Bay of Island residents even today, as they join the 16,000 followers. Surely he epitomises what are the true values of life that many carelessly take for granted.

Persuasive Writing

Dear Editor,

Bad investments, bankruptcy, a million dollar mortgage and a Ferrari on loan. Many greedy people want it all; they want their face on Forbes magazine and to invite superstars for dinner on their private island. When will they stop to think about the financial stress they are under?

Not just having their money fed down the drain, the super rich and the many in super debt lose their life with suicide attempts and drug use to name a few. If anything at their downfall you feel sorry for them, many seem to have it all but what do they really have?

People should look to the future; their sons, daughters and Grandchildren need an example, a role model to follow. Imagine telling your friend your dad is in prison for fraud and he regrets his life and all his mistakes.

People see money as their attachment to real life. When they fail to reach their money goal and they lose it all they hide it and basically it pulls them down until they pay it back or apologize for what they have done.

So how do you behave with your money? Basically there are three steps:
-Save
-Donate
-Stick to the necessities

It is vital you save for trips, your future retirement, next generations, emergencies like losing your job or medical bills and when you know you have enough left you can treat yourself to little surprises.

And in order to feel extra good about yourself, give a little back and donate to a reliable charity you believe in and in need of your donation.

Finally never go further that what you earn and keep to only what you need like food and basic survival until you can afford a little more. How could you survive without the rewards!

So think hard and manage what you have got. Never risk the untidy investments and finally think about everyone else now and in the future, everyone is equal. The future relies on you.

Time's Up (Highly Commended in Aussie Young Writers)

Time's Up

I remember the moment the forest curled to weed,

The moment the great gorilla fled,

The moment the wise buffalo's tusks were sold to one mans greed,

The moment the old oak burnt under the moon's touch,

The moment the red berry's colour went unnoticed,

The moment the great river was damned by the eroding forest,

The moment the hills stopped climbing,

The moment the chainsaws roar overpowered the bird's morning song,

The moment the cages fell from the sky,

The moment mighty roaring monsters swept away the oaks,

The moment homes were ground to stump,

I was there when the forest faded

Term 4 Goals- Leavers Newsletter

My goal is to complete the Leavers newsletter as a gift for the people leaving, this will be hard because there are only a small amount of writers in our team and only little time to complete it.

I will achieve this goal by managing my time and not committing to many other time using responsibilities and keep good times free so I can produce quality work.

I will no I have achieved this when the newsletters are handed out and people are reading and commenting on them.

Term 3 Speech Evaluation

Speech Evaluation

I have spent about a mid effort on speeches in the past but this year decided to try a bit harder and put in the extra effort and in the end it payed off, I did not get through but I believe I caught the attention of my audience. I used a stronger range of words aimed at getting the message across and sustaining it after the speech ended

Some mistakes were the lack of facial expression and range of voice volumes and expression in my voice. I think with my topic I could have involved some more humour to further catch the audiences attention.

In the future I will leave some more time because I was left with only one night and morning to practise and remember part of the speech.

Term 1 Goal-Handwriting

My goal is to work on having neat handwriting in all books and
in all work so I will learn to sustain neatness for longer,
this will help as lots of people find it difficult to read my writing.

I will this by evaluating my work and giving it a rating out of ten,
I will also ask other people for an opinion and ask if they can read it.

I will know I have achieved this when others can clearly read my work.

Evalution: I have slightly improved but will still keep an eye out for bad handwriting.

Term 2 Goal-Handwriting improvement

1. My goal is to keep my head down and get my writing to its fullest potential so I can be proud of it and appreciate my writing. I also want to get it finished before or when it’s due.

I will compare dates from the start of the term to the end and hope to see a gradual decrease of days taken to finish.

I will use my time more effectively to achieve the results I expect.

Evaluation: My speed has improved slightly but more importantly the quality has in my opinion obviously improved.

Picture and Poem

This is a picture accompanied by one of my poems done in photoshop.

Little Red Riding Hood

One beautiful fairy tale day a young girl called Little Red Riding Hood (this name was taken from her hood that was forever worn) was awoken by her mother. Her mother was bright and sunny this morning like always.

Little Red was young and a great friend to the forest and its creatures; she was never worried and had good trust in almost everybody. Little Red got up in a razzle and danced Little Red out of the door with her red hood strapped across her back, a loaf and a cake. “Take these to your ill grandmother and wish her your love,” ordered Red’s mother.

So off trotted Little Red joyfully walking through the shady morning woods leaving her home in the distance, she had been traveling for several minutes when she suddenly reached the heart of the woods and noticed a dim in the light and suspicion heavy in the air and she could see a shadow approaching her from behind. Was it hers? It was a wolf, she meant the wolf no trouble but from the growing eyes and the obvious hunger the wolf seemed to want trouble.

Little Red told the wolf of her deed and how she was going to visit her ill grandmother. The wolf seemed strangely interested. The wolf was hungry and would stop at nothing to hunt and devour its prey.
“How about we see who’s first to your grandmother’s cottage, we’ll call it a race!” demanded the wolf.
“I accept!” said Little Red, suspecting none of the wolf’s evil plan.

The wolf had already started before Little Red had a chance to say good bye, the wolf took the shortest track and went straight through the trees while Little Red Riding hood did what she was most commonly doing, skipping along, collecting flowers for her grandmother and cracking nuts to satisfy her own appetite.

The wolf was promptly at Little Red’s grandmothers and with great speed did not hesitate to capture her grandmother and eat her right up, then the wolf slipped in to the grandmother’s bed.

There was a sudden knock. Red had arrived. Tap! Tap! As Little Red entered.
“Who’s home?” asked Red.
“Um, well,” and after a short hesitation “ Your grandmother Little Red, yes, yes your grandmother.”

After the wolf’s shaky reply it was enough to satisfy Little Red and she entered and sprinted up to her grandmother’s room, being careful not to disturb her ill grandmother. The wolf demanded the cake and loaf be placed on the bedroom stool and he croaked.
“How about you come and sit with me here,” asked the wolf.
“Grandmother I never recall your arms being so long.”
“All the better to hug you young juicy girl!”
“Grandmother what enormous legs you have!”
“All the better to walk through the forest with you.”
“What large ears you have grandmother.”
“Well all the better to listen to you with!”
“Grandmother, what big bent teeth you have.”
“All the better to eat you with!”
And suddenly the wolf revealed his claws and instantly swallowed Little Red in a mouthful! She was to late to realize her grandmother was not really her grandmother but the great wolf from the forest!

The wolf was tired after such a descent mouthful and he fell straight asleep in the small-decorated cottage. Just soon after the wolf’s feast the woodcutter passed by to tidy up the grandmother’s garden. He heard the wolf’s snore and ran to the front door, chopped it down and sprinted up the stairs, he almost cut the wolf right throw the gut but suddenly he heard a scream and instead his axe handle knocked the wolf out and he blacked out on the floor. The woodcutter’s wife was called up the stairs and she cut right throw the guts being careful not to clip the wolf's victims. Once there was a tidy gap the grandmother and Little Red jumped out.
“You saved our lives!” screamed Little Red in excitement.
“Are you all right, we need to get out of here,” replied the woodcutter.
So they ran down the stairs and out side. The woodcutter’s wife remained there and sneakily she got a needle and thread, put the stool in the wolf’s stomach and stitched it back together.

When the wolf awoke he felt old and he thought his filled up stomach might have caused this. So he got up but the strain in his legs was to heavy to keep up so back he felt on the bed and realized that the stool was missing, now he found his face of anger, one that was long waiting to be used.

In the end it was of no use for he was still stuck in the grandmothers bed. And when the woodcutter realized the wolf was awoken he struck his axe and the wolf’s head went flying across the floor. The woodcutter took this opportunity and cut the wolf’s fur right off and knitted a new red coat for Little Red Riding Hood, and he didn’t dare tell her what he used to stain it with red.

Together that day they drank some tea and had a great laugh for the wolf was finished and forever gone.
