Time's Up (Highly Commended in Aussie Young Writers)

Time's Up

I remember the moment the forest curled to weed,

The moment the great gorilla fled,

The moment the wise buffalo's tusks were sold to one mans greed,

The moment the old oak burnt under the moon's touch,

The moment the red berry's colour went unnoticed,

The moment the great river was damned by the eroding forest,

The moment the hills stopped climbing,

The moment the chainsaws roar overpowered the bird's morning song,

The moment the cages fell from the sky,

The moment mighty roaring monsters swept away the oaks,

The moment homes were ground to stump,

I was there when the forest faded
